Left- Handed Appreciation

Hey guys! It’s Mac here again with a new post! Yesterday (August 13) was International Left-Handers Day, so I thought I would share some little known facts and tips for my fellow lefties. Also, if you've been keeping up with us on Instagram, you might have seen some of these details in our posts this week.

Here’s a few interesting facts about left-handers:

•Lefties make up 10% of the world’s population.

•The right hemisphere of the brain is dominant in lefties.

•Lefties tend to be more creative, due to the fact that they have to adapt to right-handed tools (can-openers, spiral-bound notebooks, scissors).

•Disney Princesses such as Mulan, Tiana, and Anna are left-handed.

And here’s some tips for left-handed humans:

Find unconventional ways to complete “normal” tasks (hooked hand position when writing; flipping a white board around to avoid smudging; placing a second piece of paper in between your hand and the paper you’re writing on to avoid pencil marks on your hand).

Change the setting on your phone and computer mouse to be left-handed accessible.

Always sit to the left of other people when eating to avoid bumping elbows with them.

And finally, if it’s just too much of a struggle to try to use something left-handed, make the habit of using it with your right hand.

Here’s some cool products created especially for left-handed people:

Lefty Notebook- These notebooks are life-changing! They are bound on the right side so lefties don’t have to worry about hitting the spirals. https://amzn.to/3kEo1LM

Left-Handed Scissors- you won’t have to deal with the pain from using normal scissors anymore. https://amzn.to/2PI2nbd

Smudgeguard for Lefties- these will banish the pencil markings on the side of your hand forever. https://amzn.to/2DX3CQR

I challenge you right-handers to try using your left hand for simple tasks like coloring, using scissors, brushing your teeth, etc. Try to see how left-handed humans learn to adapt to a right-handed world.  I hope this post has helped you gain appreciation for lefties! Come back next week for another post!

-Mac!
