Braiding Tutorials!

Hello everyone! I have some exciting stuff to share today so let’s jump right in!

I’m going to do a 30-day hairstyle challenge. A different hairstyle every day for 30 days. I’m gonna try not to repeat hairstyles, but we’ll see how it goes. I’ve been wanting to share more hairstyle content, and I think a 30-day challenge is the best way to share a variety of looks with y’all. It sounds kinda daunting, but never fear, I have a list lol. Also, I’ll be sharing my styles and some tips on Instagram so go ahead follow us @mac.and.e !

Today I wanted to share a couple of braiding tutorials, since a significant amount of the hairstyles I’m gonna do over the next month have braids in them. I’m going to teach you how to do a regular 3-strand braid, a French braid, and a Dutch braid.

  1. 3-Strand Braid

First up we have the most basic of braids. The classic 3-strand braid.

  • Pick up 3 sections of hair.

  • Pick up an outside section (right or left).

  • Cross it over the center section (the outside section now becomes the center section).

  • Pick up the opposite outside section.

  • Cross it over the center section.

  • Repeat until all the hair you want is braided.

  1. French Braid

The French Braid builds off of the 3-strand braid, so make sure you know how to do that one first.

  • Pick up 3 sections of hair.

  • Pick up an outside section, and with your other hand, pick up extra hair beside it.

  • Cross the first section with the new hair over the middle section.

  • Pick up the other outside section, add extra hair to it, and cross it over the middle.

  • Repeat until all the hair you want is in the braid, and then finish out the remaining hair with a 3-strand braid.

  1. Dutch Braid

The Dutch Braid is very similar to the French Braid, but this time you will cross the sections under the middle instead of over the middle.

  • Pick up 3 sections of hair.

  • Pick up an outside section, pick up extra hair beside it, and cross it under the middle section.

  • Pick up the other outside section, add in extra hair, and cross it under the middle section.

  • Repeat until all the hair is in the braid, and finish it with a 3-strand braid.

Now, braiding takes lots of practice, so don’t worry if you don’t get it the first time. Keep trying, and if you get really confused, find a YouTube video (there’s one for everything lol) to help you out.

I hope you are as excited for this next month of hairstyles as I am! Follow us on Instagram to keep up with the hairstyles! Thanks for stopping by!
