Back to School Hairstyles!

Hello! It’s Mac here, sharing something I love to play with… Hairstyles! I want to share some easy hairstyles for when you’re rushing out the door, or you have a zoom meeting in 5 mins and you haven’t even brushed your hair (we’ve all been there). Some of these looks include braids, so you might want to watch some tutorials about how to braid your hair before you try these. Also, excuse the low-quality pictures lol. I took these pictures this past week as I wore the hairstyles.

1. Braided Bangs

If you have bangs (or not), this is a great way to get them out of your face, and it only takes 1 minute. You can do whatever kind of braid you want: regular 3-strand, french, dutch, fishtail, etc. The instructions are simple:

  1. Pick up a front section of hair (or your bangs) and braid them.

  2. Clip some of the hair next to the braid towards the back of your head out of the way.

  3. Pin/clip the braid into place underneath the hair clipped back from step 2. (I recently tried these clips and love them: https://amzn.to/2Erbye6 )

You can also finish braiding all the way down and secure with a small elastic, if you wish.

2. Heatless Curls

This style takes a little more time the night before, but saves you time in the morning. You could make this look last two days as well.

To achieve this look:

  1. Start with wet hair, and brush it out.

  2. Part your hair in 2 or 4 sections (4 for tighter waves/short hair).

  3. Begin french or dutch braiding your hair.

  4. Secure each braid with a small elastic.

  5. Go to sleep or let your hair dry.

  6. Take out the dry braids and apply hairspray or sea salt spray.

If you do 2 braids, you can wear them the first day (a very trendy/sporty look) and then wear the waves the second day. You can also do a bunch of regular 3-strand braids on wet hair if you can’t french/dutch braid.

3. Braided Ponytail

Like the first hairstyle, you can use whatever braid you want/feel comfortable with and create different looks with each one.

Start by:

  1. Pick up a section of hair in the front and begin braiding.

  2. Finish the braid with a small elastic or use bobby pins to hold your braid in place.

  3. Gather the rest of your hair with the braid into a ponytail.

  4. Tease your ponytail, apply hairspray, add bobby pins to the braid if needed, or add a scrunchie/clips to your ponytail if you want.

You can try this look with different braids, or add a second braid on the opposite side. Or if your hair is at an awkward length from not getting a haircut during quarantine like mine lol, you can create a bun with the ponytail. You can really change how sleek or messy this look is by adjusting how tight you hold the hair as your braiding. Tighter grip = sleeker braid. Looser grip = messier braid.

4. Half-up Ponytail or Bun.

This look can also be changed depending on how much hair you pick up and where you position the ponytail or bun.

To begin this look:

  1. Pick up as much hair as you want and position it where you want the ponytail to sit (you can do a mohawk section for a higher ponytail, or part your hair and pick up the crown section for a lower bun (as pictured below).

  2. Secure with a ponytail or small elastic depending on how thick your hair is.

  3. If you want a bun,

    1. You can either leave the hair looped on the last rotation of your elastic, or

    2. You can twist your hair around the ponytail and then secure with a second ponytail or bobby pins.

  4. Finish with hairspray, cute clips or accessories if you want to.

Alright! If you made all the way to the end, you’re the best! Should I do a braid tutorial/tips and tricks post? Or should I do a 30 day hairstyle challenge? Let us know what you thought of this week’s post! Thanks for stopping by and come back next week for another post!
