30 Day Journaling Challenge *why I failed*

What’s up you guys!! I’m just going to say I am so FREAKIN’ ready for this three day weekend, online school can kind of be overwhelming. Don’t get me wrong there are some really good benefits like finishing around 11 everyday, but also some more overwhelming parts. But that might be for another blog post another day, hahaha!!

Do you all remember when I (E, one of the co- host of Mac & E) posted on our Insta: @mac.and.e (shameless self promo) about how I was going to do a 30- day journaling challenge for the month of August?? Wellll it didn’t turn out exactly how I was expecting it, I did do it some days but not a lot of them, hahaha! So I am here to give you all of the details on how I failed, and some tips I think might help you succeed if you want to try!

  1. Don’t overthink!!! This may sound so simple, but trust me it’s not especially for someone like me who overthinks everything. When I would think about what I was going to journal that day I thought I had to have some elaborate story or problem in my life that I need to write down on paper, and to be honest it doesn’t have to be like that AT ALL!! It can be simple, like writing what you’re grateful for, your favorite parts of the day, or even a funny joke someone told you that day. It doesn’t have to always be some depressing moment that has happened to you. Even though we all have those terrible days, and sometimes the only way to make it better is writing it down on paper so then you can clear your head!!

  1. Make it Enjoyable! This is a really good form of self-care, so take advantage of it! Maybe every night you light a candle and play your favorite -coffee house- song, and just let all of your thoughts of the day go onto paper, create a safe space. I kept seeing this as a chore, when in reality it is quite the opposite and when you don’t create a safe place or a chill environment it becomes… well not fun, hahah….

  1. And my last tip is Don’t Force Yourself. When beginning this challenge I felt as if I needed to write every. Single. Day. But I didn’t, but the forcing yourself is what makes it almost irritable. Start journaling because you want to start it, and don’t push yourself to do it everybody. Journaling has many perks and is great for your overall mental health but it’s not for everyone, and that's okay! It’s an escape and it looks different for everybody, so I do encourage you to begin journaling (and maybe you can get creative and add washi tape or color) But personally I don’t think you need to put a label on it because if you’re like me “30 days” might stress you out just a little… hahah!!!

I hope you all enjoyed this week's blog post! And leave us a comment if you want to see more blog posts like this, or something else you would like to hear us ramble about! You all have an amazing three day weekend and talk to ya next Friday with a new blog post, byeeee!!!
